South African Restaurant | Dads Birthday

Hi guys!

On Friday we celebrated my dads birthday. He got lots of exciting gifts and cards. He obviously got the main 'dad' present of toulbourone. Earlier on this month he had mentioned about going to a South African restaurant so, mum decided to book a table as a suprise. We told him on Monday that we were going out but wouldn't tell him where. He continuously  attempted to spoil the surprise by asking me and my brother where we were going. He hates surprises! We managed to keep it a secret though.
On Friday when we all arrived home from work/college we drove for about an hour to go to the South African restaurant. I think he knew where we were going as we had the built in satnav on and the postcode kind a gave it away.
When we arrived it was fairly dark as we had the table booked for 7pm. The restaurant was next to a huge lake (i couldn't get a photo of this because it was to dark). We were welcomed by very friendly south african staff who showed us to our seat and gave us a menu. We each ordered a starter although me and my brother shared. We had prawn cocktail salad and my parents had a 'frikkadel' which is a meat ball in a tortilla made to look like a  flower. They also shared crocodile....

For mains i had rump steak as i didn't want to eat the other things on the menu as i didn't think it was right. Dad had Cape Bobutii which he used to have a lot when he lived over in SA. Mum and my brother had a meal called Game Africa. It was a selection of five different meats such as, zebra ostrich, crocodile etc. I'm not brave enough to try something like that i find it cruel even though it isn't.

After the meal the waiter asked what brought us here so when we told them, they were keen to get dad to try a 'bush tucker trial'. For round one they gave him a blue shot with white suff at the bottom. The waiter told dad he won't tell him whats in it until he's had it. So obviously he isn't as wimpish as me and had the shot. The waiter claimed the white stuff was Zebra semen :/ i personally don't believe that. The other rounds where to lift up some mini white dishes and eat what was underneath them. Underneath the first one was a maggot type animal, under the second was a bug without any legs and under the third were meal worms (by the way none of these were alive). He managed to eat the all! I do not know how he did it. they looked revolting.
I think he enjoyed the night out and we will defiantly visit again.

I hope you liked this blog and if you live near the chester area in the UK try it out!! Talk to you on Wednesday!
